In this article we told you about the arrival of the new third generation Threadripper processors, however these were not the only novelty introduced by AMD: in a subsequent press release the company also presented the new Ryzen 9 3950 X.
This new model, when released, will be the new top of the Ryzen series in the consumer sector and, in the press release, is defined as the 16 – the world's most powerful core in its category
The Ryzen 9 3950 X is based on the “Zen 2” architecture also used for the other third generation processors and continues to use socket AM4 introduced with the first Ryzen series processors.
The new CPU counts 16 core for a total of 32 thread and has a base frequency of 3.5 GHz and a boost of 4, 7 GHz.
The total cache memory is 72 MB, the PCIe lines provided are 44 while the declared TDP is of 105 W or the same as Ryzen 9 3900 X.
AMD states that this new Ryzen 9 is able to offer performance up to 22% higher than the previous generations, being the fastest in some selected games at a resolution of 1080 p.
The company emphasizes the energy efficiency of the new processor thanks to the “Zen 2” architecture and the limited TDP, however it recommends the use of liquid cooling for this new model and, in particular, recommends using an AIO with a radiatorore at least 280 mm.
The market launch of the Nuovo Ryzen 9 3950 X is scheduled for 25 November at a recommended price of 749 $.
