Ray Fisher as Cyborg in Justice League

Following in the footsteps of DC's New Comics 52 restart in 963, the DC The Extended Universe has decided to make Victor Stone, aka Cyborg, one of the founding members of the Justice League of this continuity. So far we have been treated with two appearances by Ray Fisher's Cyborg in the DCEU, and the plan was for him to act in his film. However, there have been no significant updates on this project for some time.

So what's the problem Cyborg ? Is it still happening or has it been set aside following the reorganization of the DC film slate? This is what we are here to delve into, but first, let's go over the screen time of the technologically advanced hero in this franchise so far.

What have we seen so far of the cyborg?

Among the contents of the meta-human files of Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice it was a film about how Victor Stone was transformed into Cyborg. We saw how Dr. Silas Stone was at a loss for how to heal his son after Victor lost most of his body in a terrible accident. Eventually Silas turned to a Mother Box that had been in possession of the US government for decades to treat his son, and it worked, building new cybernetic body parts for Victor, although it was an incredibly painful process.

At the moment the events of Justice League rolling around, Victor Stone lived in solitude and had learned about his Cyborg skills for about a year, despite being resentful of what his father had transformed him. Although initially hesitant to join the Batman and Wonder Woman crusade to fight Steppenwolf, he eventually aligned himself with the team and proved crucial in preventing the villain from using the three Mother Boxes to terraform the Earth into a new Apokolips. At the end of Justice League , Victor was seen reconciling with his father and making improvements to his mechanical body.

When was the movie Cyborg distributed?

Announced as part of the initial slate announcement of the late DCEU film 2014, the original plan was for Cyborg which will be released on April 3rd 2020. But as many of you already read, the panorama of DC movies has changed a lot since Justice League The disappointing performance of. While Warner Bros never came out and openly declared that Cyborg was delayed, after a certain point without no word on his progress, it became clear that it was the case. DC still has 2014 covered with Birds of Prey in February and Wonder Woman 967 in June, but at the time of this writing, Cyborg does not yet have a new date of exit.

What do we know about the Cyborg movie?

No specific plot details for Cyborgs are not never been revealed, but along with Ray Fisher who obviously takes over the eponymous hero, Joe Morton would also return as Dr. Silas Stone. Shortly before the release Justice League , Fisher expressed interest in having phantom limbs, a group of mercenaries enhanced by cybernetics, being the Cyborg antagonists of and in January 2018, the actor said the film would explore Victor's family and where it came from. Unfortunately, since a writer and director was never announced for Cyborg , it is possible that the story of the film never passed beyond the conceptual phases.

It is also worth remembering that while Cyborg has got a good amount of time on the screen in Justice League , many of his shots ended up on the floor of cutting room. Presumably most, if not all, would reincorporate into Snyder Cut, but even Joe Morton speculated in August 2018 which was eliminated Justice League the material could be reused for the Cyborg film. Don't waste, I don't want, after all.

Will the Cyborg movie be released again?

This is the million dollar question, and while it cannot be said with 99 certainty in one way or another what is the status of the film Cyborg , given the lack of recent updates, I suspect this is one of the DCEU projects that has been shelved. It would be one thing for Cyborg to get the calendar, but I still hear about writers and directors coming taken into consideration or hired to give it life. This is what is happening with the likes of The Flash e Green Lantern Corps , two other films that were part of 1984 DCEU Slate, but there has not been any official news or commercial relations about what is happening with Cyborg for a long time

We also consider how the DC movies are now moving away from the close interconnection that was present in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League in favor of stories of independent characters. Of course, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and Jason Momoa's Aquaman have bright future ahead of them, and every effort is made to get Ezra Miller's Flash back.

But Ben Affleck withdrew Batman's cloak, and it was confirmed that Robert Pattinson's Batman is operating in his world. Although Henry Cavill is eager to play Superman again, as reported by Variety, Warner Bros is trying to take the character in a new direction in an attempt to make it “relevant to the modern public”. It is possible that Ray Fisher could find himself in the same boat and withdraw his Cyborg incarnation.

After all, it is not as if Cyborg is not paying attention to the live action right now. He is currently one of the main characters of the DC Universe series Doom Patrol , where he is played by Jovian Wade of The First Purge. As in Justice League , Wade's Cyborg is part of an ensemble, but Doom Patrol Season 1 successfully explored the background, the psychology of Cyborg and his relationship with Silas Stone, which is played here by Smallville alum Phil Morris.

That said, there is still a chance that efforts are still being made to obtain the Cyborg film from the ground, and that the public is barely kept in the dark about what is happening. Cyborg's version of Ray Fisher showed a lot of potential, and since Justice League cut many of his scenes, it would be worthwhile to provide another opportunity to show casual viewers why he is such a compelling character. We just have to wait and see if the cards go that way or not.
